I was born November 11, 1971. My father and mother are Darrell and Claudia (Jackie) McGuire. My hometown is Germantown, Ohio and I have one older sister, Lori Henry.
I have been married to my wife, Michelle Renee McGuire, for 15 years and we have two beautiful children together, Whitney and Dillon. We currently live in New Concord , Kentucky. Whitney is 12, likes horseback riding, playing sports and singing. She’s also involved in the schools basketball and softball teams. She likes an array of music, especially bluegrass and is interested in learning to play the banjo. Dillon is 8, likes to ride cycles, play his video games, basketball and baseball. He likes an various kinds of music and is learning to play the guitar. My family and I attend Poplar Springs Baptist Church located in Murray, Kentucky.
When I’m not on the road playing music, I enjoy spending time with my family. We watch movies, ride cycles or 4-wheelers, play video games, work on our 25 acre horse farm or go and watch Calloway County High School basketball games. Go Lakers! We have four horses (Lily, Bubba, Jake, Spanky) and two dogs (Katie, Lucky).
I have been around bluegrass music every since I was born. My father has been playing the bass for the Dixie Ryders for almost 30 years based out of Dayton, Ohio. I started playing bluegrass in 1991 with my fathers band. In 1993, a group of friends and I formed a band, Drive Tyme. Our first year together, Drive Tyme entered S.P.G.M.A’s Fans Choice Contest and won 1st Place. I have played in several other bands since then including Wildwood Valley Boys, Billie Renee and Cumberland Gap, High Tymes, Kentucky Ridge and the lastest group, The Lonesome Heirs based out of Nashville, TN. I not only enjoy playing bluegrass music, I also enjoy writing. I’ve co-wrote with Merrill Boggs and Keith Wallen both from Dayton, Ohio. I co-wrote the song “Raining The Blues” with Keith and it went to #1 on the bluegrass charts for several months. The song was performed and recorded by NewFound Road.
People that have influenced my music career would be Ricky Skaggs, JD Crowe, Doyle Lawson and New Grass Edition. New Grass Edition was the first time I was introduced to bluegrass music. My father, Darrell McGuire and my uncle, Bernie McGuire were both band members of the group.
I’m fulfilling a life long dream of mine to play music for a living and having the honor of being member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
